This course aims to present the global movement and effective strategies for action on social determinants of health to achieve health equity. The course consists of three parts. After reviewing lessons learned from the course: “Introduction to Society and Health” (HPM 5055), the first part reviews the historical development of action on social determinants of health including the global movement and the UK case. The second part examines selective strategies for tackling health inequalities, consisting of healthy start, healthy place, fair employment and decent work, social protection, universal health coverage, health equity in all policies, political empowerment and gender equity, market responsibility and global government, and monitoring, research, and training.
